Gutbusters – May 2012

Last week I was invited to shoot the Gutbusters Series race at Colliery Dam. I arrived there bright and early to meet the event organizer Nick and get some shots of setup and runners warming up. Nick was on the ball and extremely organized. Having tagged along with Erik Peterson at the Ladysmith race last year I knew it would be a treat to photograph such a well organized event.

After the race start I headed out to the GIANT mud puddle to get shots of the racers splashing their way through. I was honestly surprised no one went for a swim. You trail runners are sure footed even in shin deep water! After the excitment of the puddle I wandered around a few different parts of the trail to get some additional shots.

I finished off the day getting some shots at the finish line along with the awards presentation.

Site Launch

Today I’m very excited to announce the launch of our new business. I’m sure you’ve figured out that the name is denophoto and that I specialize in sports photography, but here is a little bit more about the story.

I have had the idea to do sports photography professionally for quite a while and have been working towards this goal for over a year. I had my first real opportunity to shoot sports all last year covering the VI Raiders, and the Nanaimo Clippers and absolutely loved every minute of it. Combining my love for sports and photography together has been an absolute treat.

I now have all the pieces in place to take off on this new adventure and I couldn’t be more stoked about it. I spent a lot of time planning and thinking about how I wanted to combine sports and photography as a business plan, and with suggestions and ideas from friends and family I have put together what you see here today.
